Functional Testing
Functional testing can provide valuable insights into what may be contributing to your symptoms and help guide more personalised recommendations.
As a Registered Nutritional Therapist, I use functional testing selectively and only when I believe it is likely to provide information that will influence your nutrition, lifestyle or supplement plan.
Testing is never a requirement for working with me, and many clients make excellent progress without it.
However, in the right circumstances, it can help us move beyond guesswork and make more informed decisions, especially if you have been experiencing symptoms for a long time.
What Is
Functional Testing?
Functional testing provides additional information about how different systems within the body are functioning.
Depending on the test, this may help us explore areas such as:
-
Gut health and digestion
-
Hormone balance
-
Stress and resilience
-
Nutrient status
-
Metabolism and energy production
-
Genetic influences on health and how diet and lifestyle interact with genes

The goal is to identify patterns that may help explain symptoms and support a more personalised approach.

Types of Testing

GUT HEALTH & MICROBIOME TESTING
Useful for exploring digestive symptoms such as bloating, gas, IBS, irregular bowel movements, food sensitivities as well as skin, hormone and metabolic issues.
BLOOD TESTING
Can provide insight into nutrient status, thyroid function, blood sugar regulation, inflammation and other key markers of health.
HORMONE & METABOLITE TESTING
May help investigate symptoms relating to hormones, energy, mood, sleep, stress resilience and overall wellbeing.
GENETIC TESTING
Provides insight into how your body may respond to nutrition, lifestyle and environmental factors.
I am a qualified Lifecode Gx Practitioner and can interpret Lifecode Gx reports as part of a personalised nutrition and lifestyle programme.
A Personalised Approach
Functional testing is just one piece of the puzzle.
Results should always be interpreted alongside your symptoms, health history, lifestyle and goals.
My aim is to use it strategically when it can help us better understand what may be driving your symptoms and inform your next steps.
